What Is Live Embroidery? Everything You Need to Know Before Your Next Event

At the Sweetgreen grand opening in Charlotte, something happened that tends to happen at every C² Studio activation. A guest approached the booth a little unsure of what they were looking at. Within sixty seconds of watching the needle move, they pulled out their phone to film it. By the time their tote bag was finished, they were showing the video to someone else.

That is live embroidery. And if you have never seen it at an event before, this is your introduction.

So what exactly is live embroidery?

Live embroidery is an on-site, real-time personalization experience. A professional embroiderer and machine come directly to your venue. Guests choose an item, select their design, name, or monogram, and watch it being stitched in front of them. Every piece is made individually, while they stand there, and it is finished before they leave the event.

It is part entertainment, part keepsake, and entirely personal. Unlike a pre-printed giveaway or a grab-and-go swag bag, a live embroidery piece is made for the specific person holding it, in a room full of people, at a moment they are actually present for. That combination is what makes it memorable.

How does it work from the guest perspective?

When a guest approaches the booth, they are guided through a simple ordering process. At C² Studio events, guests place their order via iPad at the booth or by scanning a QR code on their phone. They choose their item, select a design or enter their name, and submit the order through our proprietary queue management system.

From there, they have two options. They can stand at the booth and watch every stitch come together, or they can walk the event and receive an email notification when their piece is ready. Both experiences are fully intentional. The guest decides which one they want.

When the piece is finished, they pick it up. It is complete, it is theirs, and it did not exist before they walked into the room.

What kinds of events does live embroidery work for?

The short answer is almost any event where a personalized guest experience matters. C² Studio has worked the following:

  • Brand activations and retail grand openings
  • Corporate events and company celebrations
  • Weddings and wedding receptions
  • Bridal showers and bachelorette parties
  • Baby showers
  • Nonprofit galas
  • University and Greek life events
  • Private celebrations of all kinds

The common thread across all of them is that the host cares about what their guests walk away feeling. Live embroidery delivers a specific feeling: I was seen, something was made just for me, and I have the proof of it in my hands.

What items can be embroidered?

The most common items at C² Studio events are tote bags, hats, apparel, and pouches. The specific items for each event are confirmed during the booking process and depend on the event format, the brand, and what the host wants guests to take home. Some activations have a single item. Others offer a small menu of options.

What makes C² Studio different?

We operate up to three multi-needle embroidery machines, which means we can handle a high-volume guest experience without creating a line that backs up into the rest of your event. We have worked with brands including LOFT, Audemars Piguet, Sweetgreen, South Block, and more, and we bring the same professional standard to every booking regardless of size.

The biggest differentiator is our proprietary queue management system. At most live embroidery setups, guests are stuck standing at the booth waiting. Ours eliminates that entirely. Guests order, walk away, and come back when their email notification arrives. The booth works cleanly whether there are thirty guests or three hundred.
